We kick off the month of May with a surprise guest. But like we do all the time, we start things off with a few of Spann’s Random Thoughts. Before we roll on In The News, where Amazon is stated to be in the works of giving raises to over 500K employees after they’ve had much publicized battles with workers attempting to unionize themselves. The men charged in the death of Ahmaud Arbery have now also been charged with Federal Hate Crimes related to his death as well. A Michigan Bar and Restaurant owner says he can’t find people willing to work in his new establishment because of the “generous” unemployment benefits in the state. And while we’re talking about unemployment, the Michigan legislature has introduced a proposal that would offer the people currently collecting unemployment $1K to find work. Will it be enough to get more people back into the workforce, or is this more of a carrot and stick scenario?
Then we move on to Blue Blazes, where an Australian father has gone viral after he showed disappointment at the gender reveal of his coming child. Cornel West has accused former President Barack Obama of not having enough courage to fight against racism while he occupied the Oval Office, but he asserts that Joe Biden indeed does have the courage. Is it a fair criticism? And the owner of a private school in Miami is barring any of the teachers at her school from vaccination under the threat of losing their jobs. But what rationale could she be using to bar the teachers from the vaccination in the first place? And another fight happened at Detroit Metro Airport, this time it was over an altercation that happened during the flight. But can you guess which airline it was, and why did you chose Spirit?
And then we’re off to Proud To Be American, where South Carolina Senator Tim Scott found himself trending on Twitter for the most unflattering of reasons. So much so, that Twitter opted to block the term, “Uncle Tim” from it’s trending topics after Senator asserted that America is “NOT A RACIST COUNTRY” during his Republican rebuttal to Joe Biden’s first address before a joint session of Congress. In a piggyback off of that, Meghan McCain went on The View to excoriate “The Left” for how they reacted to the speech. But has “The Left” simply become a euphemism of “The Blacks” in Republican, and conservative circles?
We then close out the show with our Champ of The Week announcement. So y’all know what it is. Time to get to the Real Talk, ALL THE TIME right here on The Spann Report Podcast!
